皆さん、こんにちには。メンタルアップカウンセラーの澤村直樹です。
今回は、お子さんの思春期について一緒に考えてみたいと思います。
思春期は「自我が芽生える時期」と表現されるように、外の世界からの様々な刺激によって心の中の感情や思考が大きく揺さぶられ、自分自身に対する迷いや疑問が生まれる時期です。
それまでの親主導の考え方から一転、自分の考えや友人の意見を大切にし、逆に大人への不信感を募らせあまり本音を表に出さなくなります。
以前ご紹介した反抗期を「周りの大人への挑戦」とすると、思春期は「自分自身との孤独な戦い」といったところでしょうか。
もちろん、この２つの時期を別けて考えるのは少し強引ですが、反抗期を表面的な抵抗、思春期を内面的な抵抗とイメージすると捉えやすいかもしれませんね。
では、内面的な抵抗に対して周りの大人は一体どう対応していけばいいのか・・・というところに、お父さんお母さんの関心は集中するのではないでしょうか。
次に親子間で陥りやすい対応を２つご紹介します。
まずひとつは、
「誰がここまで育ててあげたと思っているの！？」
「偉そうに、なんで親の言うことが聞けないの！」
このような叱責は問題を複雑にするだけで、むしろ逆効果です。
子どもは、何も一人で大きくなったなんて思っていませんし、親の言うことを聞かないのではなくて自分の意見を言っているだけなのです。
もうひとつは、
「そんなことで何を悩んでいるの？！」
「そんなの関係ないでしょ！」
思春期の子どもにとっては、自分の感情や意見を否定されたり無視されることが大きな失望感に繋がりますし、親の目から見れば「大したことじゃない」ものも、子どもからすれば「大したこと」であり、そこから非常に多くのことを学び吸収しているのです。
とはいえ、お父さんやお母さんも叱責したくてしているわけではないこと、ただ自分自身の不安をぶつけてしまっているだけなのであるということも、とても大切なポイントです。
